Meet our Featured Artist 2009/2010 Season

Keith Johnstone, author of IMPRO and IMPRO for Storytellers, creator of TheatreSports tmGorillaTheatre and The Life Game, visiting guest artist intensive workshop in Chattanooga Tennessee March 9 – 15th , 2009.

Keith worked for ten years (1956-1966) at the Royal court Theatre; at various times was their chief play-reader, was responsible for the educational work, directed the Royal Court Theatre Studio, wrote and directed plays and became the Associate Director of the theatre.

He founded The Theatre Machine improvisational group in England which toured in many countries. Keith taught at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art until he left England, and has taught or given workshops at major European Theatre Schools and Universities. His books have been translated into several languages and are used by professors and directors around the world.

 Skwalking Heads Productions and the Chattanooga Center for Creative Arts will be hosting the weeklong improv festival. Keith will be teaching for five hours each day Monday through Friday (March 22-26) at the Mountain Arts Community Center at 809 Kentucky Ave. Signal Mountain, TN. 37377.  The festival includes opportunities for participants to perform with fellow improvisers from around the country. For those individuals who would like to study with Keith, but who are unable to attend the weeklong intensive there is an option to attend the “weekend only” intensive on Saturday March 27 and Sunday March 28, 2010. Keith will be directing two “Maestro” performances Friday March 26 and Saturday March 27 at the Chattanooga Center for Creative Arts. 


This is a rare opportunity for teachers, directors and students to work with one of the pioneers in the field of Improvisation.
 Founders of the Chicago Physical Theatre Institute will also be on hand to delight participants with mask work and physical comedy classes.
